From the “Slatina” of the villagers of Nuskova to a modern bottling plant in an old school – the story of Cana is the story of Goričko.
From Slatina to Cana

“Slatina”
Villagers of Nuskova discovered underground spring water in several places and named it Slatina.
- 1910
The emperor’s spring
A document mentions the “király forrás” well. Hence ROYAL in our name.
- Before WWII
The first bottling plant
Locals set up a bottling plant that supplied the water across Slovenia and to Austria.
- 2007–2008
A new exploratory well
Based on analyses we drilled a new well. In May 2008 the analyses confirmed the excellent quality of the water.
- 2010
The old school
We bought a former school building from 1900 from the Municipality of Rogašovci.
- 2016
Concession
After a long wait we received the concession in September 2016 and began obtaining building permits.
- 2017
The Cana bottling plant
A year later the plant was complete: the old school was restored with its architecture preserved, and a modern water bottling line now runs inside.
Water straight from the source
Every bottle of Cana comes from the same spring in the untouched nature of Goričko Landscape Park. I check the water at the source myself — taste, temperature, mouthfeel.
Slovenia’s first water sommelier
Cana’s founder Niko Huber is Slovenia’s first water sommelier, trained at the international Fine Water Academy.
He judges water the way a sommelier judges wine – by its composition, its taste and how it pairs with food. Cana Royal Water grew out of that knowledge.
Where children once learned, we now bottle water.
We restored the dilapidated school building so that it kept its architectural authenticity, while inside we installed modern infrastructure and a technologically advanced bottling line.
The world's first water boutique
At the bottling plant we have opened the world's first water boutique — a space where you can taste our full range of Cana Royal Water and choose the carbonation that suits you best. We also offer a selection of dishes and drinks that pair with each level of carbonation. Visits by appointment.
